The Treatment

When yellow pigment is left behind after brow removal.

Seeing yellow pigment appear during permanent makeup removal can be unexpected — especially when your brows did not look yellow before treatment began.

Cosmetic brow inks are often made from multiple pigments blended together to create a final shade. As darker pigments respond to laser treatment, lighter pigments that were previously hidden can begin to show through.

For some clients, yellow is one of the last colours revealed.

That does not automatically mean your removal journey is over. Some yellow pigments can continue to respond to laser treatment, while others may be much more resistant.

At Reborn Laser Clinic, we assess the pigment that is visible now and determine whether further PicoWay 532 nm treatment is appropriate.

The goal is not simply to keep treating because pigment remains. It is to understand what is left and choose the approach that makes sense for your skin and your pigment.

how it works

REVEAL. TARGET. REASSESS.

The colour you see in a cosmetic brow does not necessarily come from one pigment.

A darker brow may contain a combination of black, brown, red, orange, and yellow components.

These pigments do not always respond to laser treatment at the same rate.

As darker colours are reduced, lighter colours that were previously masked can become visible. A brow may move through several colour stages during removal, sometimes progressing from darker pigment to red, orange, and eventually yellow.

This is often referred to as pigment unmasking.

The laser has not necessarily created the yellow pigment. Instead, treatment may have removed enough of the darker components for pigment that was already present to become visible.

When appropriate, we use the PicoWay Zoom 532 nm wavelength to target selected red, orange, and yellow tattoo pigments.

After each treatment, we reassess what remains rather than automatically repeating the same treatment.

‍

what it can do

Help determine when laser treatment has reached its practical limit
Reduce selected warm residual cosmetic tattoo pigment
Treat yellow revealed during the removal process
Continue fading after darker pigment has reduced

PREP

Assess what remains.

Before treatment, we look at the pigment you have now — not simply what your brows looked like when the removal process began.

We review your permanent makeup history, previous laser or saline removal, the amount and depth of pigment remaining, your skin tone, and how the brows have responded so far.

Because the 532 nm wavelength also interacts with melanin in the skin, your natural skin tone and recent sun exposure are especially important.

Your skin should be clean and free of makeup or brow products before treatment.

TREAT

Precise energy. Carefully selected.

The PicoWay Zoom 532 nm handpiece delivers ultra-short picosecond pulses into appropriate yellow pigment.

When the wavelength is absorbed by susceptible pigment, the rapid energy delivery creates a predominantly photoacoustic effect that fragments the pigment into smaller particles.

Your body then gradually processes those particles over time.

Most clients describe treatment as a quick snapping or stinging sensation.

Yellow pigment can be unpredictable, so treatment is approached conservatively and the response is evaluated rather than assumed.

RECOVER

Let your skin heal. Then reassess.

The brow area may look red, swollen, lighter, or darker immediately after treatment.

Temporary frosting, pinpoint bleeding, crusting, blistering, or pigment changes can also occur depending on your skin and the treatment response.

Some brow hairs may temporarily appear white or lighter after laser exposure.

Keep the area clean and gentle while it heals. Avoid picking or scratching and protect the brows carefully from sun exposure.

Follow the aftercare instructions provided to you after treatment.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Can yellow brow pigment be completely removed?

Sometimes significant fading is possible, but complete clearance cannot be guaranteed. Certain yellow tattoo pigments have responded well to picosecond 532 nm treatment in published research, but those results cannot be assumed for every cosmetic brow pigment. Cosmetic tattoo inks vary by manufacturer, formulation, age, implantation depth, and previous work. We would rather give you a realistic assessment based on your actual pigment than promise a result that cannot be predicted in advance.

Will yellow brow removal affect my eyebrow hair?

PicoWay tattoo removal targets tattoo pigment within the skin rather than intentionally targeting the hair follicle. Your eyebrows do not need to be shaved before treatment. Some hairs may temporarily appear white, frosted, or lighter because laser energy can interact with melanin within the exposed hair shaft. Normally pigmented hair typically becomes visible again as new hair grows. Temporary shedding or longer-lasting changes can occur, however, so we cannot guarantee that hair changes are impossible.

Do I have to go to Matchbox if my yellow pigment stops responding?

No. The partnership simply gives Reborn clients another option when we do not believe continuing laser is the right approach. If we think your remaining pigment may be better assessed for saline removal, we can refer you to Matchbox Tattoo Company and explain why we believe another method may be worth considering. The decision is always yours.

What happens if laser has reached its limit?

For selected clients with persistent yellow brow pigment, we have another pathway. Reborn Laser Clinic partners with Matchbox Tattoo Company for assessment for saline removal when we believe laser has taken the pigment as far as it reasonably can. Their artists bring extensive tattooing experience and an understanding of needle depth, pigment placement, skin response, and precision technique. Because the brows are a small and highly visible area, that level of control matters. Our goal is not to commit you to one removal method. It is to recommend the most appropriate next step based on how your pigment is actually responding.

What if my yellow pigment stops responding?

There is an important difference between pigment still being visible and pigment still being responsive to laser. If we reach a point where additional laser sessions are unlikely to provide meaningful improvement, we will tell you. We do not believe in continuing laser indefinitely simply because some colour remains. At that point, another removal method may make more sense.

How many yellow brow removal sessions will I need?

There is no reliable number that applies to everyone. Yellow pigment can be unpredictable because cosmetic tattoo formulations vary significantly. If the pigment continues responding, treatment may continue. If improvement begins to plateau, we reassess whether another session is likely to provide meaningful benefit. We would rather evaluate your response between treatments than sell you a predetermined package for pigment that may or may not respond.

Why does skin tone matter?

The 532 nm wavelength can also be absorbed by melanin within the surrounding skin. This means your skin tone, baseline pigmentation, and recent sun exposure matter when determining whether treatment is appropriate. PicoWay's current 532 nm tattoo indication for red, orange, and yellow pigment is for Fitzpatrick skin types I–III. Having a wavelength capable of targeting yellow does not automatically mean that wavelength is appropriate for every client. The surrounding skin also has to be suitable for treatment.

Why do some yellow brows respond while others do not?

There is no universal formula for cosmetic tattoo ink. Treatment response can depend on: The pigments used in the original ink Pigment depth and density The amount of pigment remaining Previous permanent makeup procedures Previous laser or saline removal Pigment layering Scar tissue Skin tone Individual treatment response This is why we evaluate progress throughout the removal process rather than promising a predetermined outcome.

Can yellow brow pigment be removed?

Sometimes. Yellow has historically been one of the more difficult tattoo colours to treat. Picosecond technology has expanded the treatment options for certain yellow pigments, and the PicoWay 532 nm wavelength can be used for selected red, orange, and yellow tattoo pigments in appropriate candidates. However, cosmetic tattoo formulations vary considerably. Two brows can look almost identical in colour while containing completely different pigments. Some yellow brows continue to fade well. Others improve only partially. Some eventually reach a point where further laser treatment produces little meaningful change. Complete removal cannot be guaranteed.

Why can yellow appear after red or orange pigment?

Permanent makeup removal often happens in stages. Once darker pigment has faded, red or orange may become visible. As those components respond to further treatment, a lighter yellow component may then become easier to see. This does not necessarily mean treatment is moving backward. It may simply mean another component of the original cosmetic pigment has been revealed. That is why we reassess your brows before every treatment instead of automatically repeating the previous wavelength and settings.

Why did my brows turn yellow?

The yellow pigment was likely already part of the original cosmetic tattoo formulation. Brow pigments are often mixtures of several colours. As darker pigments are reduced, yellow or warmer components that were previously hidden can become more noticeable. This is why permanent makeup removal can involve several different colour stages. The laser has not necessarily turned the pigment yellow. In many cases, it has simply revealed what was underneath.
