The Treatment
Venous lakes are soft, blue or purple vascular spots that most commonly appear on the lips, face, ears, or other sun-exposed areas.
They are caused by a small collection of dilated blood vessels close to the surface of the skin and are generally benign.
At Reborn Laser Clinic, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus 1064 nm Nd to target appropriate venous lakes.
The laser delivers controlled energy into the vessel, causing it to heat, contract, and close.
Over time, the body gradually clears the treated vessel, allowing the spot to become less visible.
The goal is to reduce the appearance of the venous lake while leaving the surrounding skin as unaffected as possible.

how it works
Venous lakes consist of enlarged, dilated blood vessels beneath the skin.
The GentleMax Pro Plus 1064 nm Nd delivers laser energy deeply enough to reach the targeted vessel, where it is absorbed by blood and converted into controlled heat.
This thermal effect causes the vessel walls to contract and close.
The body then gradually clears the treated vascular tissue, allowing the spot to become less noticeable as the area heals.
Long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd treatment has been studied extensively for venous lakes, particularly those occurring on the lips and face.
what it can do

.avif)

Before treatment, we assess the colour, size, location, and appearance of the lesion to determine whether it is appropriate for laser treatment.
We also consider your skin tone, medical history, medications, and any history of bleeding or changes in the area.
Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure before your appointment and arrive with the treatment area clean and free of makeup or skincare products.
The GentleMax Pro Plus delivers controlled 1064 nm Nd laser pulses directly into the venous lake.
Most clients describe the sensation as a brief snapping or warming feeling.
Candela's Dynamic Cooling Device helps protect the surface of the skin and improve comfort during treatment.
Because venous lakes are typically small and localized, treatment itself is usually very quick.
The treated area may appear darker, slightly swollen, or temporarily more noticeable immediately after treatment.
A small crust, bruise, or temporary colour change can also occur depending on the location and response of the vessel.
Do not pick, scratch, or disturb the treated area while it heals.
Keep the skin clean and gentle, and protect the area carefully from sun exposure throughout recovery.
QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Yes. The lip is one of the most commonly studied areas for 1064 nm Nd treatment of venous lakes. Because the lip is highly vascular and more sensitive than surrounding skin, treatment needs to be performed carefully using appropriate settings and technique.
Downtime is generally minimal. The treated area may temporarily darken, swell, bruise, or develop a small crust. Healing varies depending on the size and location of the venous lake.
A successfully treated venous lake may remain closed and significantly less visible. However, laser treatment cannot guarantee that another vascular lesion will never develop. Sun exposure, aging, and normal vascular changes can contribute to new lesions appearing over time.
They can. Because a venous lake is made up of dilated blood vessels, it may bleed if it is accidentally cut or traumatized. Repeated bleeding can be one reason people choose to have a venous lake treated.
Most venous lakes are benign. However, not every dark, blue, or purple spot is a venous lake. If a lesion has changed in appearance, has irregular features, bleeds repeatedly, or we are not confident about what it is, we may recommend medical or dermatological assessment before laser treatment.
Sometimes the vessel visibly contracts or changes colour during treatment. The spot may appear darker or slightly swollen before gradually becoming less noticeable as the treated vessel is cleared. Final improvement develops as the area heals.
Many venous lakes respond well to a single treatment. Some may require a second session depending on the size, depth, location, and response of the vessel. Your treatment plan will be determined according to the individual lesion and how it responds after treatment
Yes. Long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd laser treatment is an established treatment option for venous lakes. Published studies have reported high rates of improvement and clearance, particularly for lesions occurring on the lips and face. Individual results can vary depending on the size, depth, and location of the lesion.
Venous lakes are thought to be associated with long-term sun exposure and changes in blood vessels that occur over time. They are more common in adults and often develop on areas that receive frequent sun exposure.
A venous lake is a small collection of dilated blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. It usually appears as a soft blue, purple, or dark red spot and is most commonly seen on the lips, ears, or face. Venous lakes are generally benign.
